The Project (English/Spanish)
Have you always wanted to experience living in community in an ecovillage? Do you want to learn how to build a cob house from start to finish and start your day off with an inspirational one-hour practice of yoga, chi gong and meditation? Do you want to experience the south of Spain during the best time of the year when all the tourists are gone and the weather and ocean is still perfectly warm? Are you an outdoorsy type that likes to try exciting extracurricular activities with local experts? For one month, we will build a 25 square meter cob building from rock and/or tire foundation to living (green) roof at one of the most interesting and original ecovillage communities in Europe, El Molino de Guadalmesi, set right on the Mediterranean Sea next to Tarifa. Each day will start with an hour of chi gong/yoga/meditation practice, followed by breakfast and then 5-6 hours of building. After lunch, participants will have the option to rest, continue building on their own, and/or participate in an extracurricular activity with a guide or teacher (may be at an additional cost) and/or participate in the community’s classes and/or receive a variety of bodywork. There are also great wind and kitesurfing spots all over the area and the gorgeous beaches. Evenings we will have discussions, slideshows and/or movies relevant to each day’s work. Saturday evening will be Gala Night with a special dinner and dance party afterwards and Sundays we will offer Brunch and have the day off. All the food will be of the highest quality: local, organic, and vegetarian, and the menu will be designed and prepared by a professional chef. This event is Family Friendly and no experience is necessary. Childcare can be available for a small fee.
Location & Our Host
El Molino de Guadalmesí is a small conscious & ecological community of 6 dynamic individuals who began developing this gorgeous fertile wild land set on the Mediterranean Coast facing North Africa into the center for conscious personal and community process explorations that it has become. Over the last 10 years it has received over 300 students coming for workshops in the areas of Dragon Dreaming , Community Living, Self-Love, Detoxification, NVC, etc. All their work and evolution is based on the Dragon Dreaming process brought to the world from the Australian Aborigines by John Croft. We will have the opportunity to experience their offerings in the afternoons after lunch.
El Molino strives to be a self-sufficient community growing and eating mostly their own organic local food and respecting the wilderness around them, while creating networks of collaboration and cooperation with all their neighbors and other eco-communities in the area of Andalucia.
We are fortunate to get to be hosted with them, only 10km form Tarifa, one of the finest locations for outdoors life, sports, culture, music, nightlife and food. They are on the Mediterranean Ocean and next to the sacred Guadalmesi River (River of Women). Please visit their website for more information.
All of our accommodations are shared. There is a yurt with 5-6 beds and a house on the land with 2 bunkbeds, 6 other beds and camping available for more privacy.

While it is preferred that students enroll for the whole course, it is possible to enroll for 1, 2 or 3 individual weeks as well. Please note that information from the other weeks will not necessarily be repeated. Cob building is a strenuous physical exercise, especially for those who are not accustomed to doing this kind of outside work with the Earth. While everyone is welcome and no experience is necessary, we ask that you monitor yourself, take breaks, drink lots of water, and take time off to rest and do other things if you feel like it. There is no obligation to work and much can be learned from watching as well, however it is important for students to get as much tactile and practical experience as possible to reap the maximal benefits of the course and come away with confidence and skills to go build and even lead their next project! In the 4 weeks, the structural portion of our building and floor and plaster base coats will be finished, and possibly second coats. We will however cover all of it in lectures and get to practice all aspects.
