At this time there is no official body of accreditation for Cob education and training that we know of.
CruzinCobGlobal offers a Cob Certificate for each of its Workshop formats: 10, 14 and 28 days.
CRUZINCOBGLOBAL COBBER CERTIFICATION
Basic Cob Certificate
Students complete a 21-day workshop in which they build cob walls from start to finish (1 coat of plaster) as well as 2 layers of cob floor. This does not include the foundation but does include roof connections, door, windows, shelves, inserts, sculpture, electrical, plumbing, floor and plaster. They are eligible to assist in a 21-day workshop as well as be a paid Cob Intern on a CCG Build once approved.
Intermediate Cob Certificate
Students complete a 28-day workshop which includes everything covered in the 21-day workshop plus the foundation and, time permitting, a second plaster coat on wall. They are eligible to assist in a 21-day or 28-day workshop as well as be a paid Cob Intern on a CCG Build once approved.
Advanced Cob Certificate
Students complete a 35-day workshop which includes everything covered in the 28-day workshop plus the Roof Build. They are eligible to assist in a 21-day, 28-day or 35-day workshop as well as be a Cob Builder on a CCG Build once approved.
THE WORKING COBBER
CruzinCobGlobal has also designed 3 levels of education/experience that students should aim for in developing their knowledge and skills as Cobbers and which will help us in identifying teaching and building positions for our students.
The Apprentice Cobber is a student who has taken a 35-day Complete Cob Workshop in which they built a whole structure from foundation to roof. They have thoroughly read the “Hand-Sculpted House”. They are now ready to go out and build their own or someone else’s cob building on their own, or leading others, which will then take them to the next level. The Apprentice Cobber is also eligible to be a Cob Assistant in a CCG Workshop or a Cob Builder on a CCG Build.
The Professional Cobber has completed a whole structure on his/her own or leading others outside of a workshop context. They have completed a building project from beginning to end without a teacher or other mentor onsite. They are ready for professional paid work for others. If they have already been a Cob Assistant in a CCG Workshop, they are eligible to teach a short 2-3 day Cob Workshop with CCG.
The Master Cobber has completed 2 or more cob buildings from beginning to end and been a Cob Assistant in at least two CCG Workshop. A Master Cobber is ready to take on apprentices, teach workshops, and lead building crews on larger projects.
