Everything is ready for you to live here right away: 3 cozy, peaceful artistic natural “cob” bungalows made only of local natural materials (clay, sand, fibers) and a 2-story “cob” loft with stunning mountain and ocean views, 3 outdoor solar showers, 2 outdoor bathtubs, a “cob” sauna, 2 communal kitchens (indoor & outdoor), a “cob” oven, a blissful 80m2 yoga deck surrounded by trees and forest and 2 storage buildings. Three of the “cob” buildings have rocket-fired efficient wood heating & one has a standard woodstove. The outdoor kitchen uses gas or wood.
You will get bananas year-round, guavas in Winter, loquats & granadilhas in Spring, all the veggies you can plant year-round as well as just-fruiting Avocadoes, Citrus, Figs, Hazelnuts, Anona and others. If desired, the Quinta flock of 25-30 chickens can come along, as well as one or more of the cats who live here and protect the facilites from rodents.
The Quinta is a short 5-minute walk to the dreamy natural swimming pools of the Calhau and is easy walking distance to local food stores, wonderful coastal walking & biking paths to the port and the town of Lagoa, and the beautiful black sand beaches of Pópulo & Milicias. Ponta Delgada is a flat 30-minute bike ride or 10-minute drive away and the PDL airport is a quick 17-minute drive. Close enough to the highway and town for faster travelling but far enough to feel like you are in the countryside with no neighbors.
This sale can also include a bonus: completed architectural project for a 2-story, 2 or 3-bedroom residence (200m2) also designed ecologically and with the same natural building materials, that can be submitted for approval at anytime. The Quinta has a maximum building area of 500m2, of which only 126m2 has been used in order to maintain the “wild” feeling. It comes with a solar electric array with battery (no grid connection), a highly-efficient concentrated solar water-heating system with copper tubing, a city water connection and is served by the Lagoa Municipal Facilities for garbage & recycling collection.
In 2026 The Câmara has plans to widen the Canada to the standard 4.5 meters with an asphalt road and will be rebuilding all the Canada walls of the Quinta to do so, using the traditional drystack stonework.
Finally, should the buyer decide to generate Tourism income from May through September renting bungalows and camping sites, they will need to submit the project to the Tourism Department for final approval. The Câmara has already informally approved this project, based on the new PDM which allows for it. This is a great source of income which I, Claudine, will be happy to pass on with related support and information.
My creative project and personal healing time in the Azores is complete, as I had projected, 5 years. This place has given me ALOT. Im so grateful for the kind and respectful people I have met here and what I have learned.
The climate and ocean and vegetation have blessed me every day. I wish I could teleport the Quinta with me wherever I land next, closer to and perhaps cohabitating wth family and others on a homestead. Whoever is/are the next caretaker(s) of this blessed place will thank me for the rest of their life/ves.
Waking up every morning and checking the ocean from bed and practicing Chi Gong and Yoga watching the sunrise coming up behind Lagoa do Fogo. This place will be in my Spirit forever.
